Thursday, June 27 - Sue Dallon and Karina Romero
|
My fifteen-year stint as head honcho at Firehouse Tango comes to an end on June 27. I can't think of a better way to mark this than to share a celebratory dance with all my Firehouse tanguero friends. Please join me in this life-changing event.
Starting in July, Terri Lopez takes over management. Though my role may change, I'll be there most Thursdays to share the love and excitement of the new Firehouse - Tango Milonga II.
Karina Romero teaches
Karina Romero will teach from 7 to 8:30. See the message from Terri below for more information.
Firehouse Tango Milonga and buffet dinner will follow the lesson from 8:30 till 11:15.

Last Thursday, June 20 - Birthday of Elena Syrett
Elena is a long-time Firehouse friend. We were delighted to be able to celebrate her birthday. Francis Gregoire started, and the Firehouse tangueros loved cutting in on her celebratory dance.
Walter Monteblanco, our dear friend and instructor of many years, taught a delightful lesson. Look for him again in the future.

Dear friends:
As promised I am pleased to announce that our new Guest Instructor will be Karina Romeo. Karina comes to us with great experience as a professional dancer and instructor having studied with the most influential teachers in the world, to name a few Graciela Mingo & Ester Pugliese, Gustavo Naveira, Osvaldo Zotto,Luis Solanas,Vilma & Fernanda Galera, Pablo Veron & Omar Vega. Please go to her web page, Karina Romero Tango@gmail,com for her complete
bio.
Karina will be teaching our Firehouse Tango Milonga the month of July and I am working around her schedule for her to continue.
I decided and she as well as Sue agreed for her to come to Firehouse and teach the class on June 27th before she begins teaching The Firehouse Tango Milonga. Please welcome her.
Terri
If heaven is anything like celebrating one’s birthday at Firehouse Tango, it has a lot to recommend it. Frankly, I’d rather be at Firehouse. Thank you lovely tangueras, for a birthday memory I shall cherish. Con mucho amore,
Steve Turi
I keep saying I do not want to celebrate any more birthdays, but how many men will line up to dance with me, if not for the traditional tributes on birthdays.....oh well, you know that is not really true because our tanqueros dance with all of the ladies...
Terri Lopez
Congratulations to Diane Langmuir and Yevgeni Davidov
|
Last week, Diane Langmuir (Our Firehouse friend) and Yevgeni Davidov (Hudson Dance Studio) won ten first and two second places in the pro-am division of the International Tango Festival in Saint Petersberg, Russia. Two of the prizes were all-around, and the rest were for individual events. What an achievement! We are so
proud of them both.

Firehouse Tango and Los Pitucos present Tango on the Hudson - 2019.

From 2006 thru 2013, we hosted our annual Firehouse Tango on the Hudson picnic milonga at the magnificent outdoor Alpine Pavilion. So many folks have asked us to resume the event, that we're doing it again in 2019. This event will be hosted by Felix Pacheco and Sue Dallon.
Folks always loved dancing tango and sharing delicious picnic lunches with friends, If you've attended before, you know how great it is. If you haven't, we know you will love it. Don't miss it. Save the date - August 25, 2019.
A reminder that Firehouse Tango does not supply wine - Your fellow tangueros bring it. Therefore, if you drink it, please make sure to bring a bottle every so often.
The folks below brought food and wine this week -
- Barbara Lombardi - Popcorn
- Elena Syrett - Birthday Cakes
And these people brought wine
- Barbara Lombardi
- John Sullivan
- George Ngo
- Camille
- Francis & Marie
- Bob Brillo
- Eduardo Campos
Last week, cortinas were Billy Joel. Next week, to mark the transition, I'm going to use Joe Dallon's old Cortinas.
A cortina (curtain) is a short piece (20–60 seconds) of non-dance music that is played between tandas at a milonga (tango dance event). The cortina lets the dancers know that the tanda has ended. The partners can then
without insult thank each other and return to their own tables, to find a new dance partner at the next tanda. Cortinas are used at many of the milongas in Argentina and Uruguay but are increasingly common elsewhere. - Wikipedia
