There will be plenty of fireworks outside, so we'll skip them at Firehouse for Independence Day
Goodbye to Sue Dallon and July at Firehouse Tango
|
Goodbye from Sue
I was blown away by the outpouring of love from my Firehouse friends tonight. I was Cinderella at the ball, and each partner was my very own prince-charming. The gifts were over-the-top. I can't wait to load my new iPad with books and music and to show off that beautiful bracelet to family and friends. Thanks for all the individual gifts, as well. I will treasure the cards packed with signatures and expressions of thanks and
appreciation for me. Also, thanks to Flo and Ingrid for the special desserts and to the wonderful, anonymous (You know who you are) donor of my fabulous pictoral celebration cake.
So many of you tonight thanked me for changing your lives. However, it is I who must thank you, as you have changed my life much more than I yours. I am touched, thankful, and privileged to know every one of you.
Finally, thank you to Terri for continuing the tradition of "The Friendly Milonga" and allowing me to travel the world and come back to my favorite place, knowing that it will always be there waiting for me.
Starting in July, Terri Lopez takes over management. Though my role may change, I'll be there most Thursdays to share the love and excitement of the new Firehouse - Tango Milonga II.

FIREHOUSE TANGO MILONGA II
Dear Friends, Milongueros and Milongueras.
Welcome one and all to the New Firehouse Tango Milonga II.
As your humble, official Manager and Hostess effective July 1, 2019, I will re-organize an exciting team of rotating Guest Instructors and Dee-jays, offering variety, diversity, and a menu of flavors that will appeal to all levels of Milongeros and Milongueras.
Everyone is welcome to enjoy a wonderful mix of the familiar with the new and partake in Tango-Milonga fellowship meeting new and current friends. Our ambiance will glow with the class and elegance that Tango inspires, as each of you takes to the dance floor and Milonga the night away.
Our guest instructors have a strong background in teaching and also learning from the Masters of Tango. Their style of instruction will inspire and encourage self confidence, to make it a fun experience for the basic beginner to the seasoned veteran, and everyone in-between.
They will help all of us to achieve the comfort level that fits you the best individually, where we enjoy learning and practicing with each other, building up the self confidence that comes with encouragement.
We are a social network of diverse cultural backgrounds, who will not only build our Tango skills, but forge long lasting friendships by mutual respect, variety of interests, and shared passion for music, class and just enjoy each other’s company one “miracle Thursday” night a week.
“Miracle Thursday”? My family makes sport of me saying every other day of the week, I have body-aches and limitations that miraculously disappear on the day I am dressing up to go out dancing Tango. “It’s a miracle!”
To restate my message in the June 6, 2019 Newsletter; my heartfelt appreciation to my good friend Sue Dallon for her continuing support in making this a seamless transition. Our gratitude to Fran and Pat, for their long history of support to the former Firehouse Tango. Let’s wish them good luck.
Schedules of Guest Instructors to follow. Ask your friends to join us.
Terri
Congratulations to Diane Langmuir and Yevgeni Davidov
|
Last week, I wrote that Diane Langmuir (Our Firehouse friend) and Yevgeni Davidov (Hudson Dance Studio) won ten first and two second places in the pro-am division of the International Tango Festival in Saint Petersberg, Russia. Two of the prizes were all-around, and the rest were for individual events. In actuality, they won
thirteen prizes. Even more of an achievement! We are so proud of them both.
Save the Date - August 25, 2019
Firehouse Tango and Los Pitucos present Tango on the Hudson - 2019.
|
From 2006 thru 2013, we hosted our annual Firehouse Tango on the Hudson
picnic milonga at the magnificent outdoor Alpine Pavilion. So many folks have asked us to resume the event, that we're doing it again in 2019. This event will be hosted by Felix Pacheco and Sue Dallon.
Folks always loved dancing tango and sharing delicious picnic lunches with friends, If you've attended before, you know how great it is. If you haven't, we know you will love it. Don't miss it. Save the date - August 25, 2019.
A reminder that Firehouse Tango does not supply wine - Your fellow tangueros bring it. Therefore, if you drink it, please make sure to bring a bottle every so often.
The folks below brought food and wine this week -
- Barbara Lombardi - Popcorn
- Henry Kim - Rolled Cookies
- Ingrid Jacob - Rhubarb Cake
And these people brought wine

Tonight, I used Joe Dallon's cortinas. It was a fitting end to a very long and successful run.
A cortina (curtain) is a short piece (20–60 seconds) of non-dance music that is played between tandas at a milonga (tango dance event). The cortina lets the dancers know that the tanda has ended. The partners can then
without insult thank each other and return to their own tables, to find a new dance partner at the next tanda. Cortinas are used at many of the milongas in Argentina and Uruguay but are increasingly common elsewhere. - Wikipedia
