TERRI's FIREHOUSE TANGO-MILONGA II
MESSAGE FROM TERRI
TANGO HAIKU:
"The music goes in my ears, is filtered through my heart, and comes out through my feet." ~ El Flaco Dany Garcia:
To all of our First-Timers, All-Timers, and Yet to Attend-Timers:
Thursday nights together with us is carefully designed with all of you in mind.
Both for the well seasoned dancers and for the rest of us. It is all about having fun, fashion and style!
I worked long and hard to develop the full combination of Tango spirit, fine music, professional instruction, live entertainment, beautiful glimmering hardwood dance floor, spacious venue, dancing Al-Fresco on our outdoor deck, dim-lit romantic ambiance, snack table, ample parking, convenient location that is about15 minutes from the GW Bridge, gallant gentlemen, elegant ladies, and a passion that
electrifies everyone upon entry.
Our members are friendly, classy, and the kind of people you'll look forward to meeting up with again every Thursday night.
RECOGNITION MESSAGE:
Applause and appreciation to two of our very own lovely Milongueras who were gracious enough to surprise us with their former Instructor Mr. Iakof Shonsky of "The Tango Academy".
He isvisiting the USA for the next few weeks all the way from Tbilisi, Georgia and chose to celebrate Tango with us on Thursday night.
He socialized, danced and charmed us all with his style, wit, and gallant Tango etiquette.
I want to thank Mr. Iakof Shonsky again for dancing with all of our elegant ladies, mingling with everyone, and I personally was honored by his thoughtful gift of a enticing bottle of red wine directly from his home town in Tbilisi, Georgia.
Looks like Terri's Firehouse Tango-Milonga II has made a good impression on our sister Tango Community in Tbilisi, Georgia thanks to our two lovely members. Thank you ladies!
Thanks to all of you who helped make Mr. Iakof Shonsky feel welcome and right at home with us.
Mr. Shonsky, we thank you from the bottom of our hearts and be assured you always have a Tango home here with us at Terr's Firehouse Tango-Milonga II.
Tango Report:
Our wonderful Milongueros and Milongueras continue to make it a happy and fun event.
Every one in attendance were top shelf. The ladies were elegant and classy. Our gentlemen were chivalrous and engaging. Even in these times quality outshines quantity every time.
We are the place to be every Thursday night without fail because our members make it a fun time. Remember, we consistently keep traditional Argentine Tango alive!
Try us out and feel it for yourself.
INFORMATION: Analia Carreno and Luis Ramirez are proud of the progress all of you continue to make. You are picking up new moves, posture and making your own unique style. We all learn from each other. I love the comments I read online and from other places about all of you.
Our amazingly multi-talented DJ Javier Sanchez is the best in the business. His endless collection of a tireless variety of Tango composers and musicians energize the entire dance floor.
Stay tuned -- I will be scheduling him soon to perform with his trio for our entertainment and dancing pleasure.
Group lessons: All skill levels are taught by Analia Carreno and Luis Ramirez every Thursday from 7:00 PM to 8:30 PM. We try to start the class on time and give those of you who want to take the group lesson to settle in.
NEW STUFF:
Each week, Javier Sanchez will feature a different Artist for your enjoyment. This week he will feature the timeless compositions of Rodolfo Biagi.
More about the artist in our Tango Tutor.
This will improve upon your Tango smarts for light discussion.
TANGO TUTOR:
I have restarted this tutorial to help us become more conversant on the topic. I have included terminology, history, and factoids to expand your Tango knowledge.
Tango is not only about learning steps, but understanding and listening to the music.
Each artist interprets the same music /song that you dance to, but the musical styles are different.
Your ear, needs to listen so that you can dance to each interpretation from those artists elegantly.
It is written all over the place that the best way to improve your dancing is to know the music you are dancing to as your body moves with the different styles, so that you may look and be lead gracefully on the dance floor. ("you are not robots")
Rodolfo Biagi, born in Buenos Aires district of San Telmo March 14,1906 -September 04, 1969, he was a member of Juan D'Arienzo;s band from 1935 to 1938,when he formed his own band known as Orchestra Tipica.
He was given a nickname of (manos bruja) magic hands.
Some of his recordings you may recognize.
Todos te nombra/ La Gran Muneca.
TANGO TERMS In Buenos Aires "ll" or y" is pronounced "zh" almost an English "j
a "qu"sounds like the "c" in cat;
a "z" is pronounced like "c:'
and a Spanish "j" is a hard, throaty "h" sou-
Sacada (sah-kah-dah) A kind of displacement in which the man steps between the woman's legs in such a way that the contact appears to send her leg to its next position.
+++ Need I say it? Worth repeating, Tango is non-judgmental. We are not "paused" simply because we met all of the State mandated criteria to operate.
We operate safely because we adhere to suggested guidelines. All are welcome to join us.
So be respectful of all those who make personal choices to participate and equally to those who make personal choices not to. Everyone just do your own thing. +++
If you missed this week, try not to miss out next week. We are full of exciting surprises. Our system is working well, thanks to all of you.
