TERRI's FIREHOUSE TANGO-MILONGA II
MESSAGE FROM TERRI
TANGO HAIKU: "Tango is a truth drug. It lays bare your problems and your complexes, but also the strengths you hide from others so as not to vex them. It shows what a couple can be for each other, how they can listen to each other. People who only want to listen to themselves will hate tango.”
~ Nina George
To all of our First-Timers, All-Timers, and Yet to Attend-Timers:
Thursday nights together with us is carefully designed with all of you in mind.
Both for the well seasoned dancers and for the rest of us. It is all about having fun, fashion and style!
I worked long and hard to develop the full combination of Tango spirit, fine music, professional instruction, live entertainment, beautiful glimmering hardwood dance floor, spacious venue, dancing Al-Fresco on our outdoor deck, dim-lit romantic ambiance, snack table, ample parking, convenient location that is about15 minutes from the GW Bridge, gallant gentlemen, elegant ladies, and a passion that
electrifies everyone upon entry.
Our members are friendly, classy, and the kind of people you'll look forward to meeting up with again every Thursday night.
Also, we are the place where "Tango Etiquette" is ever present.
RECOGNITION MESSAGE:
Applause and appreciation to two of our very own lovely Milongueras who were gracious enough to surprise us with their former Instructor Mr. Iakof Shonsky of "The Tango Academy". socialized, danced and charmed us all with
his style, wit, and gallant Tango etiquette.
I want to thank Mr. Iakof Shonsky again for dancing with all of our elegant ladies, mingling with everyone, and I personally was honored by his thoughtful gift of an enticing bottle of red wine directly from his home town in Tbilisi, Georgia.
Looks like Terri's Firehouse Tango-Milonga II has made a good impression on our sister Tango Community in Tbilisi, Georgia thanks to our two thoughtful and generous members. Thank you ladies!
Thanks to all of you who helped make Mr. Iakof Shonsky felt so welcome and right at home here that he joined us again on Thursday the 20th of May 202l.
Mr. Shonsky, we thank you from the bottom of our hearts and be assured you always have a Tango home here with us at Terri's Firehouse Tango-Milonga II.
Tango Report:
Our wonderful Milongueros and Milongueras continue to make it a happy and fun event.
I will never tire to observe how our gallant gents practice Tango Etiquette and our ladies respond in kind.
Every one of you in attendance are top shelf. All the ladies ooze elegance and class. Our gentlemen are chivalrous and engaging. Even in these times quality outshines quantity every time.
We are the place to be every Thursday night without fail because our members make it a fun time. Music and laughter are the sounds we enjoy most.
Remember, we consistently keep traditional Argentine Tango alive!
Try us out and feel it for yourself.
INFORMATION: Our instructors, Analia Carreno and Luis Ramirez are proud of the progress all of you continue to make. You are picking up new moves, posture and developing your own unique style. We all learn from each other. I love the comments I read online and from other places about all of you.
Our amazingly multi-talented DJ Javier Sanchez is one of the best in the business. His endless collection of a tireless variety of Tango composers and musicians energize the entire dance floor
Stay tuned -- I will be scheduling him soon to perform with his trio for our entertainment and dancing pleasure.
Group lessons: All skill levels are taught by Analia Carreno and Luis Ramirez every Thursday from 7:00 PM to 8:30 PM. We try to start the class on time and give those of you who want to take the group lesson to settle in.
NEW STUFF:
I have included terminology, history, and factoids to expand your Tango knowledge.
Tango is not only about learning steps, but understanding and listening to the music.
Each artist interprets the same music /song that you dance to, but the musical styles are different.
Your ear, needs to listen so that you can dance to each interpretation from those artists elegantly.
It is written all over the place that the best way to improve your dancing is to know the music you are dancing to as your body moves with the different styles, so that you may look and be lead gracefully on the dance floor. ("you are not robots")
TANGO TERMS In Buenos Aires "ll" or y" is pronounced "zh" almost an English "j
a "qu"sounds like the "c" in cat;
a "z" is pronounced like "c:'
and a Spanish "j" is a hard, throaty "h" sou-
FIRULETE (fee-roo-leh-tay) An adornment; a decoration; an embellishment. To draw or doodle with your feet on the floor. Complicated or syncopated movements of the feet and legs which dancers use to demonstrate their skill and to interpret the music. (Similar to dibujo) Drawing a sketch. A dibujo is done by drawing circles or other small designs or movements on the floor with ones toe.
+++ Need I say it? Worth repeating, Tango is non-judgmental. We are not "paused" simply because we met all of the State mandated criteria to operate.
We operate safely because we adhere to suggested guidelines. All are welcome to join us.
So be respectful of all those who make personal choices to participate and equally to those who make personal choices not to. Everyone just do your own thing. +++
INSTRUCTORS REPORT:
Not only is everyone's skill level improving but also your attitude, posture, and individuality is shining through as well.
Where ever you go to dance your own unique style will be evident and noticed. Bravo. Keep up the good work. The lessons are paying off for all of you.
Naturally, every instructor has their own style and methodologies. What works and what sticks with you is all that counts.
I gently recommend every level of skill set to come by and try the lesson. You will enjoy it. Also, not only does it sharpen your skills but we all learn from each other, be it style, rhythm or Tango attitude. Sharing is caring.
Analia Carreno and Luis Ramirez, are available for private lessons.
