MESSAGE FROM TERRI:
Terri's Tango Haiku:
"Today I choose life. Every morning when I wake up I can choose joy, happiness, negativity, pain... To feel the freedom that comes from being able to continue to make mistakes and choices - today I choose to feel life, not to deny my humanity but embrace it." ~ Kevin Aucoin
To all of our First-Timers, All-Timers, and Yet to Attend-Timers.
Hurricane Elsa and Tornadoes that hit us in New Jersey, did not keep you away. You ventured through the soaking floods to be with us.
Wow!!! I was there and so was my dedicated assistant who is the first face you see when you enter, Tibor Csokasi, who renders Tech supports when needed and he is the "keeper of the gate". Take a bow Sir.
Our instructors Analia Carreno and Luis Ramirez gave us all a fine greeting as well.
Most notably, our Guest DJ Mayok, (Urszula Abolik) did not disappoint us at all. Not to mention, she bravely drove through the storm all the way from Pennsylvania in order to fulfill her commitment and dedication to us.
All of you courageously told Hurricane Elsa; "I am the storm!"
Our continued journey to Argentine Tango cannot be stopped by some iddy-biddy rain clouds.
These wonderful team of people keep this Milonga going and welcome all of you when you enter our doors are what makes Terri's Firehouse Tango-Milonga 2.... "The place to be every Thursday night!"
WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT:
I prepare the full combination of Tango spirit, fine music, professional instruction, live entertainment, beautiful glimmering hardwood dance floor, spacious venue, dancing Al-Fresco on our outdoor deck, dim-lit romantic ambiance, snack table, ample parking, convenient location that is about15 minutes from the GW Bridge, gallant gentlemen, elegant ladies, and a passion
that electrifies everyone upon entry.
Also, we are the place where "Tango Etiquette" is ever present.
RECOGNITION REPORT:
Our fantastic and professional Guest DJ Urszula Anolik a/k/a DJ Mayok was a hit!
Her energetic playlist and vivacious personality had everyone on their feet dancing the night away.
There was no shortage of compliments about her command of music and inspiring Tandas that kept us dancing the entire evening till lights out.
DJ Mayok will return as soon as her rotation schedule permits. Thank you again and to all of you who embraced her with welcoming arms.
Compliments to our members:
At Terri's Firehouse Tango-Milonga II, our ladies simply ooze class. Our gentlemen are gallant and exceedingly engaging.
We are the place where Tango Etiquette is natural and follows our members wherever they go.
We prove it every time. Despite these challenging times, our quality outshines quantity every time.
Music and laughter are the sounds filling the air every Thursday night we enjoy most. We have a fun loving crowd. Bring a friend and invite anyone who has not tried us out yet.
Evidently, Imitation is the fondest form of flattery.
We add adobo and sofrito to spice up our Tandas. Our Tandas always include a variety of Salsa, Mambo, Merengue and social style dance to keep you on the floor. Yet, we consistently remain loyal to our roots.
Remember, here is where we always keep traditional Argentine Tango alive!
taught by Analia Carreno and Luis Ramirez every Thursday from 7:00 PM to 8:30 PM. We try to start the class on time and give those of you who want to take the group lesson to settle in.
NEW STUFF:
I have included terminology, history, and factoids to expand your Tango knowledge.
Tango is not only about learning steps, but understanding and listening to the music.
Each artist interprets the same music /song that you dance to, but the musical styles are different.
Your ear, needs to listen so that you can dance to each interpretation from those artists elegantly.
It is written all over the place that the best way to improve your dancing is to know the music you are dancing to as your body moves with the different styles, so that you may look and be lead gracefully on the dance floor. ("you are not robots")
TANGO TERMS In Buenos Aires "ll" or y" is pronounced "zh" almost an English "j
a "qu"sounds like the "c" in cat;
a "z" is pronounced like "c:'
Tango steps:
LAPIZ(la peez) Like a pencil on a compass. To turn on one foot and draw a circle around the body with the free foot.
Courtesy Corner: Common courtesy, good manners and tango etiquette always go a long way in making and keeping friends. What happens at Terri's Firehouse Tango - Stays in Terri's Firehouse Tango!
