Tonight, Thursday, August 9th - Birthdays of Joe Dallon and Herb Kahn
|
Since the death of Joe Dallon (my dear husband, as well as my Firehouse Tango partner and co-founder) four years ago, I have marked his August
11th birthday by using one of his wonderful playlists. Herb's birthday is August 12th, so last year, I honored both of these very special guys together. I'll do it again this year on Thursday, August 9th. Joe's playlist will be the evening's music, and we will celebrate Herb
with cake and a birthday tango. After I start the dance, all of the Firehouse Tangueras will follow. Herb will love it!
Last year, although it wasn't my birthday, some of the tangueros decided that it should be, so I danced along with Herb. I shall be happy to do so again -- or not.
If heaven is anything like celebrating one’s birthday at Firehouse Tango, it has a lot to recommend it. Frankly, I’d rather be at Firehouse. Thank you lovely tangueras, for a birthday memory I shall cherish. Con mucho
amore, Steve Turi
I keep saying I do not want to celebrate any more birthdays, but how many men will line up to dance with me, if not for the traditional tributes on
birthdays.....oh well, you know that is not really true because our tanqueros dance with all of the ladies... Terri Lopez This week, I'm going to use Joe Dallon's last playlist.
A cortina
(curtain) is a short piece (20–60 seconds) of non-dance music that is played between tandas at a milonga (tango dance event). The cortina lets the dancers know that the tanda has ended.
The partners can then without insult thank each other and return to their own tables, to find a new dance partner at the next tanda. Cortinas are used at many of the milongas in Argentina
and Uruguay but are increasingly common elsewhere. - Wikipedia
Let us know if you are celebrating an occasion and would like to request special music for that night’s cortinas. We will try very hard to accommodate you. |
